The Science
What Is Xeomin?
Xeomin is a prescription injectable containing incobotulinumtoxinA — a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. The FDA approved Xeomin for therapeutic use in 2010 and for cosmetic treatment of glabellar (frown) lines in 2011.
Unlike Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is manufactured without complexing or accessory proteins. Its formulation contains only three components: incobotulinumtoxinA, human albumin, and sucrose. This "naked" structure means there are fewer foreign proteins for the immune system to recognize — which may reduce the likelihood of antibody formation in patients who have lost responsiveness to other neurotoxins.
When injected into targeted facial muscles, Xeomin temporarily blocks nerve signals that trigger contraction. Muscles relax, skin above them smooths, and dynamic wrinkles soften. Unit dosing is similar to Botox, making it a straightforward alternative for patients seeking a purified option at Aurevia in Irvine.
